Beatty Award

The Beatty Award is the most distinguished award given by the Utah Public Health Association (UPHA). Each year the Beatty Award is presented to a UPHA member who is in good standing and who has made a significant contribution to public health in Utah. Nominations can be made by a non-UPHA member.

Rising Star in Public Health Award

The recipient of the Rising Star in Public Health Award will be an individual who demonstrates leadership in the public health field. Individuals nominated for this award should be making a significant contribution to the advancement of health within a community, or the knowledge and practice in the public health field. They must demonstrate commitment, use new approaches in conducting public health work or creativity in applying scientific knowledge to the field. Nominees should be new to public health, having worked in this area for no more than three years.

Youth Award

This award is presented annually to a youth group that has made a significant contribution to address a serious public health problem. Examples of projects that past award recipients have been nominated for include anti-smoking and anti-drug/alcohol programs; programs promoting physical activity and nutrition; bicycle and helmet safety; programs promoting well-being for the elderly; and programs to help improve the environment.
Projects nominated must have been planned with a specific outcome goal. The project must have been implemented within the past two years, demonstrated beneficial results, and led by persons under the age of 18. Projects may have been organized at school or through scouts, church groups, or other community clubs/groups. Projects that include adult mentoring or guidance are acceptable.

Nominations for The Public Health Hero Award are grouped into three different categories: 1) Individual from the community, 2) Public health employee, 3) Group, organization, or project.
